Improving Food Safety — A Culture of Collaboration

I’ve been CEO of the California LGMA for two months and I remain both excited and humbled by the task at hand. Excited because I have assumed responsibility for an ever-evolving organization that has done significant work to develop an industry-wide food safety program for leafy greens. But I remain humble because I clearly recognize that my primary role is protecting the consumer and public health by continuously improving the safety of leafy greens, and that challenge feels daunting.

Tim York Selected as New CEO of California LGMA

During the October 29, 2020 advisory board meeting, Tim York was named the new Chief Executive Officer of the California Leafy Greens Marketing Agreement. York will replace Scott Horsfall who is retiring in early 2021.

New Website "All About Lettuce" for Registered Dietitians and Influencers

This week the LGMA is launching a new website created specifically for registered dietitians, influencers, professional food writers and consumers. LettuceInfo.org is dedicated to everything you need to know about lettuce and leafy greens and is a resource to help people access facts and get answers about lettuce safety and nutrition.

LGMA Audit Data Released on New Water Requirements

Last year the LGMA approved significant changes to improve the safety of water used in farming leafy greens. These updates are now in place throughout the California leafy greens industry and represent a further strengthening of what were already the most stringent measures required of any produce commodity. These requirements also go well beyond what’s currently in place under federal Produce Safety Rule regulations.

Survey Shows Detailed Traceability Systems are in Place on LGMA Member Farms

A survey of member companies operating under the California Leafy Greens Marketing Agreement shows that producers are capable of quickly tracking product involved in an outbreak or recall.
