California LGMA hosts FDA Staff on Educational Tour

Written by April Ward

On August 12, 2026, California LGMA staff were pleased to host an educational farm tour in the Salinas Valley for FDA fresh produce safety staff. The goal of the tour was to get FDA staff familiar with the Salinas Valley, with a special focus on the LGMA’s food safety standards that LGMA members use in their operations.

FDA sent five staff members who work in fresh produce safety. Tour attendees went out with LGMA staff to learn how LGMA works to minimize risk related to agricultural water, adjacent lands, harvest operations and more.

“Deepening relationships with key regulatory agencies like the FDA is a core priority of our newly adopted strategic plan. This tour provided a fantastic opportunity for us to build stronger connections with FDA staff and gain insight into their perspectives, while also allowing us to demonstrate the tangible role, rigorous standards, and positive impact of the LGMA."

- Greg Komar, California LGMA Technical Director
